Misalignment of teeth or malocclusion is one of the most prevalent clinical dental conditions, affecting over 200 million individuals, or approximately 75% of the U.S. population.
Besides appearance factors, many people do not realize that malocclusion may also be responsible for dental problems such as tooth decay, tooth loss, gum disease, jaw joint pain, and headaches. However, because of the compromised aesthetics, discomfort and other drawbacks associated with conventional braces, only a relatively small proportion of people with malocclusion seek traditional treatment.
With the introduction of Invisalign you can now get treatment for malocclusion without braces or other more uncomfortable orthodontic procedures. More than 3 million patients worldwide have been treated with Invisalign.
Invisalign can help you get the great smile you’ve always wanted because it’s…
Invisible, so no one can tell you’re straightening your teeth. So now you can smile more during treatment as well as after.
Removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment, plus brushing and flossing are no problem.
Invisalign allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan before you start – so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.
Comfortable, because it has no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. And no metal and wires usually means you spend less time in our office getting adjustments.
How does Invisalign work?
Over the course of treatment, you will be supplied with a series of clear aligners, which are made of virtually invisible thermoplastic material that look similar to teeth-whitening trays. A series of Invisalign aligners are custom-made for you, to move your teeth in the sequence determined by your doctor.
Each aligner will make slight adjustments to tooth position, a process that is mapped out in advance by your orthodontist, specifically for your situation. When the aligners are placed on the teeth, they cause the teeth to gradually shift from their current position. After approximately two weeks, you will begin using the next set of aligners, which will continue the teeth straightening process.
Through the use of our patented thermoplastic design, Invisalign aligners move your teeth through the appropriate placement of controlled force. The main difference is that Invisalign not only controls the force, but also the timing of the force application. During each stage, only certain teeth are allowed to move. These movements are determined by your doctor as he or she maps out your unique Invisalign® treatment plan.
