My Child Is About to Start School. Should I Take Them to the Dentist?
Posted on 8/15/2024 by Florida Smiles Dental
While you may be enjoying the late spring season, it will not be long before fall is here. Whether your child is planning their first day of preschool or elementary school, it is an important milestone. You are most likely planning for a doctor visit and a haircut, but have you thought about a dental visit? Here are some tips for dental visits.
Has Your Child Been Before?
If your child has been to see our dentist before, then you should be sure that they are coming in to visit at least twice a year so our dentist can make sure their teeth and gums are healthy. It is important that while your children are young, we check their teeth for tooth decay and periodontal disease. Also, the more often our dentist sees your child, the more likely it is they will notice any problems and recommend treatment so they can have the best teeth possible.
What if your child has not been to the dentist? Then, it is time for them to come in to see one! You can prepare your child for a visit ahead of time so they will be ready for their first visit. You may want to think about having them come into the office to visit us before their actual visit. We can arrange a time for them to meet with our dentist, look at an exam room, and even view some dental tools.
What Is the Dentist Looking For?
When you bring your child in to visit, our first step is to take dental X-rays. These X-rays can help us look at the teeth and jaw, as well as other structures in their mouth. X-rays can help the dentist spot potential issues with the erupting teeth, as well as the teeth that will erupt soon.
Next, the dental hygienist will clean the teeth and gums and polish those teeth beautifully. Once our dentist takes a look at the X-rays of your son or daughter and checks their teeth, they will be all set for school. Not sure if child has teeth that are ready for school yet? Let us help.
