How Does A Dental Implant Compare To A Real Tooth
Fort Lauderdale, FL

Natural teeth are strong when healthy but are prone to damage by general wear and tear, gum disease, and poor oral hygiene. If the damage exceeds to a certain extent, it leads to missing teeth. While some do not worry, most face constant inconvenience due to missing teeth. However, dental implants provide a quick and effective solution.

While they may be different from real teeth, there are many benefits of dental implants that have made them popular with dental experts and patients. However, many still worry about the efficacy of dental implants.

They Are Durable

Once our adult teeth set in, they are built to last. However, after surviving through constant challenges, such as sugary food that promote bacterial growth and tooth decay, they can not hold on much longer. Dental implants are made from durable materials. The implant consists of two parts; the post and the crown. The post is often made from titanium, one of the most durable metals. Once the dental implant is in place and the jaw heals around it, your new tooth will be just as strong, if not stronger, than your real tooth. Therefore, you can chew on any crunchy food you desire, and your implant will not break. You will not have to worry about chipped teeth or the like.

They Are Resistant to Decay

The mouth is home to several bacteria, which respire and produce acid in the presence of sugary food. The acid reacts with the tooth and dissolves the enamel around it, leading to decay and cavities.

However, dental implants are highly resistant to tooth decay. This is because the acid does not affect the titanium post and ceramic/porcelain crown. This provides you with long-lasting teeth without worrying about tooth decay.

They Work Differently

While your real teeth are anchored to the gums with ligaments, dental implants are anchored to the bone.
Therefore, the strength of your bite comes from your jaw strength and ability to heal around and grab the implant. For some patients, their implants could apply stronger force than their real teeth, depending on their jaw strength.

Dental Implant FAQ

How Painful Are Dental Implants?

For most patients, there is very little discomfort and pain involved in the procedure. Your doctor will use local anesthesia to ensure you do not feel any pain. You might experience discomfort during your recovery, but that is part of the healing process.

Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?

If you have a missing tooth due to decay or an accident, you can get a dental implant. Candidates for dental implants must have good overall health, oral health, and relative jaw strength. Ask your doctor at Florida Smiles Dental for a consultation to decide whether you should get dental implants.
